Getting Professional Medical Help to Get Off
Drugs and Alcohol Safely and Comfortably
Detox or Detoxification is the process of
helping patients physically get off of drugs
or alcohol. Drug withdrawal can be very frightening and the fear of going
through withdrawal may cause the patient to avoid seeking treatment for
their addiction. The good news is that modern day medicine provides a
whole range of medications to ease the patient’s withdrawal symptoms and to carefully and
gently help the body adjust to being off alcohol or drugs. The patient
does not have to go “cold turkey” and suffer to get help.
In fact, painful withdrawal only serves to keep
the addict from seeking help.
After the initial evaluation is done by
one of our professional staff, a determination is made as to whether
or not the patient will need detoxification. The need for detoxification
depends upon the severity of the patient’s symptoms when he/she
tries to stop the drug, the quantity and duration of use and the type
of drug that the patient is addicted to.
Depending on the severity of the condition
an appointment is made with one of our Board Certified physicians. This
is normally within 24 hours of the assessment, but if the condition needs
more immediate attention, the doctor may be seen or contacted that day
in order to determine if the patient needs inpatient or outpatient detoxification.
We can assist with detoxification for the
most commonly used or abused drugs including: alcohol, opiates, speed,
cocaine, sedatives or Marijuana.
We can also use Suboxone for detoxification
or maintenance.
